Victory for campaigners as Trump’s visit delayed again

Donald Trump was set to visit the UK in February to open a new US embassy, but has pulled out. He claimed it is down to problems with the embassy but it is being widely put down to his fear of protests.

The visit had already been downgraded from a state visit to a ‘working visit’, but this did nothing to quell popular anger at Theresa May and her government rolling out the red carpet for Trump.

London mayor Sadiq Khan said: “It appears that President Trump got the message from the many Londoners who love and admire America and Americans but find his policies and actions the polar opposite of our city’s values of inclusion, diversity and tolerance. His visit next month would without doubt have been met by mass peaceful protests.”

The Stop Trump Coalition remains committed to challenging the politics of Trumpism and all forms of racism and oppression, and to organising a mass mobilisation for any rescheduled visit by Trump.
