Stop Trump Coalition responds to news of October visit

• Trump visit rumoured to be ‘penciled in’ for 5 – 8 October 2018
• Stop Trump Coalition calls on Theresa May to ‘come clean’ on visit details
• Promises to bring hundreds of thousands onto the streets in protest at just ’24 hours notice’

Responding to news in the Sunday Times that Trump would visit the UK on 5 – 8 October, a spokesperson for the Stop Trump Coalition said:

“If Donald Trump visits in October he will get the reception he deserves: a carnival of resistance on the streets of Britain. This won’t just be a protest against the President’s visit – it will be a movement against racism, anti-migrant bigotry, sexism, transphobia and far right politics in the UK.

“By deliberately shrouding the visit in mystery Trump and May are desperately trying to disorganise the inevitable mass protests. It quite simply won’t work. We can bring hundreds of thousands of people onto the streets at just 24 hours notice.

“But the government should come clean on their plans. The secrecy shows how desperate they are to avoid protests.

“Don’t roll out the red carpet for this dangerous politician. Cancel the visit.”
